Laser Gum De-pigmentation or Gum Bleaching

Gum bleaching, also known as de-pigmentation is a procedure for removing dark patches on the gums generally caused by excessive melanin.

Genetics is the most common cause of darker pigments or black spots on the gums. When excess melanin is build up in the gums, it makes them look black or brown instead of their natural color, that is pink.

Although, this additional pigment does not indicate any dysfunction or disease, however patients seek treatment due to an aesthetic preference for having pink gums that showcase their teeth better. There are many other causes of dark gums also, such as smoking, effect of amalgam fillings on the gum, long-term and constant consumption of carbonated drinks and dark-color food and side effects from some medications. A clinical assessment should be carried out for customizing the treatment, according to the patient’s needs.

Teeth Whitening and Best Cosmetic Dentist in Dubai

Healthy Smile Habits

In your 20’s
  • Don't smoke. There's nothing glamorous or cool about yellow, decayed teeth or swollen, bleeding gums.
  • Go easy on sugary foods, especially carbonated soft drinks and sports drinks. Avoid frequent snacking, which causes acid levels in the mouth to remain high over an extended time.
  • Chew sugarless gum. Chewing increases saliva production, which helps cleanse the mouth and neutralize acidity.
  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes and floss daily. Daily Dental Hygiene reduces bacteria levels in your mouth.
  • See your Dentist and Dental Hygienist every six months for a regular check-up and cleaning.
In your 30’s
  • As you start to age you need to be aware of recession. People tend to brush too hard. Use a soft toothbrush or an electric toothbrush. Once you abrade away the gums, the damage irreversible.
  • See your Dentist regularly. He or she can spot cracked or broken fillings that may weaken teeth. Your Dentist will also check for signs of grinding. In many cases, people who grind or clench their teeth aren't aware of the habit or the damage they are doing to their teeth. If you show signs of grinding, your Cosmetic Dentist may recommend a mouth guard that can be worn at night to prevent grinding.
  • Good Dental hygiene is advised to prevent any cavities or gum disease.
In your 40’s

  • Schedule regular oral cancer screenings.
  • Healthy teeth and gums allow you to eat natural foods that are high in protein and vitamins. Cavities in the teeth and infections in the gums are not only painful, but they have been linked to more serious health concerns throughout the body. If your gums seem discolored or swollen, you could have gum disease. If you have any infections or pain, visit your Dentist.
  • Start flossing more regularly. By flossing regularly, you eliminate debris and bacteria that can build up between your teeth.
  • Check the side effects of your medications. One of the more common side effects of prescription medication is dry mouth. Without saliva helping to wash out debris, you're more like to develop cavities.
  • Whether you're in your 40s, 50s or 60s, it is important to visit your Dentist and Dental Hygienist every six months.
